Rogaland is milder than Trøndelag and considerably wetter, and that changes what a fireplace is for. Fewer clients need a stove as primary heating; most want it for the evenings, the shoulder seasons and the look of the room. Output requirements come down, and appliance choice opens up.

What tightens instead is exposure. Wind-driven rain and salt air attack external steel flues and outdoor installations far faster than inland. On coastal plots we specify higher-grade stainless and detail terminals with the prevailing south-westerly in mind — a standard cowl in Sola will not last what it would last in Oppdal.

The newer housing around Forus, Jåttåvågen and Sandnes is also very airtight, which makes a dedicated combustion air supply close to mandatory rather than optional. Retrofitting one after a stove is installed costs several times what specifying it up front does.
