Home/Services/Fireplace installation

Installation

Fireplace installation, done once and done properly.

Around 1,400 installations across Trøndelag and Rogaland since 2009. Cast iron, soapstone, flush inserts, gas, bioethanol — and the wall, hearth and flue work that surrounds them.

Appliance types

What we install

Freestanding wood stoves

Cast iron or soapstone, standing clear of the wall. The most forgiving option in an existing house: fastest to fit, easiest to service, and soapstone keeps releasing heat long after the fire is out.

Built-in inserts

The firebox disappears into the wall and only the glass remains. The appliance is the quick part — the build, insulation and finish around it is where the days go, and where a bad job shows.

Bespoke surrounds

A clean-burn insert with a surround drawn for your room: plastered, soapstone, blackened steel or oak. Detailed with your architect, built by our own masons.

Gas and bioethanol

Balanced-flue gas fires for instant heat without ash. Flueless bioethanol where no chimney exists — atmosphere rather than heating, and we will tell you so before you buy one.

On the day

One to two days, and you get your room back.

We arrive with protection for floors and adjacent surfaces, cut and seal the flue penetration, set the appliance, verify clearances against the manufacturer's manual, test the draught and burn it in with you present.

Then we vacuum, take the packaging away, hand over the signed installation certificate and file the notification to your municipality's fire service. Nothing is left for you to chase.

Questions

Common questions

Do I need permission to install a fireplace?

Not a building application, if you are putting an appliance into an existing home with a usable chimney. You do have to notify your municipality's fire service, and by law that duty sits with the property owner. We file it on your behalf and give you the copy.

What if there is no chimney at all?

Then a new chimney is needed, and that does require an application to the municipality. It is a bigger job but a routine one — a modern insulated steel flue can usually be routed through the roof in a day or two. We prepare and submit the application.

Does the installer have to be certified?

The law sets no formal qualification requirement for the person fitting an appliance, which is exactly why the market is uneven. Fire services recommend using certified installers, and the finished work must be checked by a qualified controller. All our fitters hold level 2 or above from the Norsk Varme trade school.

How much heat do I actually need?

As a rough starting point, 60–80 watts per square metre — so a 50 m² open-plan space lands around 4–6 kW. Insulation, ceiling height and how open the plan is all shift that. Oversizing is the most common mistake: an overpowered stove gets run too cool, which soots the glass and the flue.

Can you install an appliance I have already bought?

Yes, provided it is a clean-burn appliance meeting NS 3059 emissions requirements and it comes with its installation manual. We check clearances against that manual before agreeing a date.

How long does it take from first call to a lit fire?

Typically three to six weeks: survey within a week, proposal a few days later, then the lead time on the appliance itself. Cabin projects in winter depend on access.

Will it make a mess?

There is dust when a wall or roof is opened — that is unavoidable. Containing it is not. We protect and seal the work area, and we clean before we leave.

What does it cost?

We quote per project rather than from a price list, because the appliance is often the smaller half of the number. The survey and the written proposal are free, and the price we give is fixed.
